Tips for Your Recruiting Highlight Video During the Coronavirus Pandemic

Spencer Myler - 2019 Season Highlight Video

When it comes to your highlight video - especially in the age of COVID-19 - professional film and editing can be the difference between getting noticed and coaches missing out. When building a highlight video, remember these ABC’s.

Accessibility - You want your highlight tape to be as visible as possible. While this means keeping up to date with your online recruiting presence, it does not have to be through a major recruiting platform. Coaches emails and social media accounts are - for the most part - easily accessible online. Maintain an online presence through social media, and a personal web page with your athletic portfolio and an interactive resume.

Balance -  You don’t want to overload your highlight video with one aspect of your game, or have a ton of information in the video besides some small graphics to identify your athlete. Make sure you capture film not only of goals, baskets, hits or other highlights but also warm-ups and especially moments of leadership; so the coach knows you take the game seriously.

Capture - Capture your film as professionally as possible! #1 Buy a tripod. Your athlete needs to be easily viewable in quality game film versus quality opposition. #2 Use graphics, icons and lower thirds to identify the athlete when editing. #3 Don’t just capture the eyes of coaches. Use the video to drive them to other aspects of your athletes portfolio like their full resume and social media accounts.

We specialize in finding innovative ways for athletes to showcase themselves to college coaches. Whether you’re an athlete trying to get recruited, or a coach trying to gain unique exposure for your players or program, please don’t hesitate to contact us, we’d love to hear from you.
